Let's get fit with a smile

E-mail Print PDF

Have you heared about it? This latest dance craze that recently hit the top of the fitness classes worldwide?

It is not simply a work out. It is not even an aerobics class nor it is a traditional salsa class where you require a partner. What is it then? It‘s called Zumba! Finally, fitness that is turning into fun and happiness; an exercise that turns sweat breaking workout into a party. The result? You get fit without even noticing!

As Jane Alexander wrote in her article : "noone is going to be immune to Zumba in the UK. In fact, don't even try to resist: give in, get up and join the party"' (Jane Alexander, 30 March 2009). Indeed, this is exactly  how I felt when I went to watch a class last week. I had decided to go with a friend and get the feel of it, after I heard so much about it. I had not even taken gym clothes to change for the class  - unfortunately! However, really, I could not resist the beat of the latino rythm. Without realizing,  there I was, amidst the crowd, weaving and shimmering; moving and dancing!

What can I say? Try it and you will be hooked. You  will find classes  almost anywhere; at dance schools and fitness clubs. Even if you can’t convince your partner to join the fun, this is a wonderful energetic action even without him or her.

For those of you who still prefer traditional, Spanish or Latin American dancing classes, there are a range of schools in town offering ballroom,  salsa, flamenco and tango classes.

So get there and look at the New Year with a smile. Happy 2010!
