Linkedin – just another social media network?

E-mail Print PDF

Have you ever wanted to join an online network and weren’t sure of which one? Or have you started a Linkedin profile and you are asking yourself “so, what now?” Take head, there is hope. Join a Linkedin workshop conducted in English in your area.

If you remember the terms “DOS”, “Word Star” and “Lotus” you may, like me, have been introduced to computers after you have already settled into the working environment some time way back in your early twenties. Meanwhile of course no one actually remembers the time before computers and it doesn’t really matter because in just a few decades society has shifted to an environment which produces uninterrupted flow of information at the tip of our fingers helping us to make informed decisions.

The incredible speed at which the internet has grabbed hold of almost all levels of business (and personal lives) is breathtaking and at the same time it can be quite intimidating. This is why I decided some time ago to dig deep into cyberspace and actually try to understand what’s going on.  After all, we can only be afraid of what we don’t know.  Sure, we all use the internet in one way or another.  But, do we use it effectively? Now that is difficult to establish because there are so many options.  Let’s take Social Media for example.  It is my firm belief, that rather sooner than later, there will be a few dominant networking tools which slowly but firmly broaden themselves out to be the preferred communication network tools – similar to the dominant operating systems we have all become accustomed with.

Yes indeed, all they are, are tools and tools in themselves don’t make a difference at all. You make the difference!  Use the tool to interact with your community, find the community which is useful for you to reach your goal and objectives. Social media will amplify the word of mouth credibility which builds your personal brand. This is where the real value comes in and we can not ignore the trend of ever expanding virtual networks.

Once you understand social media you can use it’s full potential for your personal benefit for example to find new customers, connect with interest groups, keep up to date track of your contacts, fine a new job opportunity, find a new supplier or partner or just keep in touch with long distant friends. Of course you can not participate in every single media available – as my father used to say: “you can only dance on one wedding at the same time” - so choose the tool, or small selection of tools that will work for you.  If you use more than one, make sure they are able to integrate. This will help you save time when updating profiles and managing your network.

Linkedin is such an online business network and by far not the only one; it is however my preferred network and that of 55 000 000+ people world wide. Why? According to Mashable, The Social Media Guide, Linkedin continues to be the fastest growing social networking site, doubling its size in one year. It also has the lowest entry threshold to become a member. Head hunters, job seekers and Fortune 500 companies alike are active users and what’s more, the founders have committed that Linkedin is free and will stay free. It serves as an up-to-date repository for all your contacts, your contacts contacts and their contacts. When used effectively it offers a valuable source of competences and opportunities.

There is almost no way around it any more. The above reasons should suffice to convince you to engage and find the benefits that work for you.  How then do you set up a good profile? In my workshop you will learn how Linkedin works and what you can use it for and how best to position yourself.

So, here you are.  Linkedin workshops are offered on a One-on-One basis, Group workshop training, Skype online training, Corporate workshops and/or I can build your basic profile for your. If you’d like to know more, link here, choose the Tip button at the top and take it from there.

Happy networking!
