Shall we challenge ourselves and try to distract our children from the ever addicting electronic devices? Here are some tips on exhibitons at museums throughout The Netherlands for adults and children alike.

Exhibition "Oceania: Signs of Rites, Symbols of Power" at the World Museum Rotterdam, until May 24th 2010. Newly renovated museum. Opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 22.00. The museum has also a permanent collection of almost 2000 pieces from Asia, America, Oceania, Africa and the Islamic countries. Look here for more information. 

"Made in Holland: Dutch Inventions and Innovations‟ at the Kunsthal in  Rotterdam, Museumpark, Westzeedijk 341, Rotterdam.  The exhibition shows how all sorts of problems have been solved over the centuries, how new products are tested and how small designs can change a society. Young and old visitors are encouraged not only to test models and to improve products but also to come up with their own experiments. Until March 21st. Opens from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00 and on Sunday from 11.00 to 17.00. Look here for more information.

Exhibition "De Fantasie Fabriek‟ (The Fantasy Factory) at the Noordbrabants Museum, Verwersstraat 41, Den Bosch,  Animation in the Netherlands from January 23rd to April 25th. Films, making-of information, artwork, commercials, games and video clips. Hand-on experience on how to make your own animated film in the animation kitchen of the museum.
 
"German Expressionism 1905-1913" at the Groninger Museum:  Highlights from the collection of the Brücke Museum in Berlin. The exhibition, which will be held in the Ploeg Pavilion, will display 150 works. The artists’ group Brücke, founded in Dresden in 1905, is regarded right down to this day as one of the most important fundaments on which North European expressionism is founded . 
 
Exhibition "The face of human evolution" at the Museum Naturalis in  Leiden until 28 February 2010. This very special exhibition presents the original skull of the earliest hominid ever found outside Africa.To know more about this exhibition look at their website.

Exhibition on modernist Edgar Fernhout until 14.02.10 at the Museum voor Moderne Kunsten Arnhem.

At the Water Museum in Arnhem  children can participate in water experiments every weekend between 12.30 and 16.00. They can, for example, make eggs float on water or convert sea water into swimming pool water. Special activities are organised during the school holidays.
