Hatha yoga yokes the mind, the spirit and the body. The word yoga comes from the word yoke meaning to join or unite.
An improved physical health gives  better mental health,  greater energy, a positive outlook and a peaceful state of mind.
Hatha yoga builds on the two aspects of which we consist of: consciousness and energy.
In Sanskrit the word hatha means sun (Ha) and moon (Tha). In fact , hatha yoga symbolizes the warm physical outgoing energy uniting with the cooler psychic inflowing energy.

The essence of the yoga classes is not to strain the body but to bring out its natural strength, aliveness and flexibility. There is no competition, your own personal progress is what counts. If you twist yourself into a difficult pose just to please your class or your yoga teacher you are actually missing the yoga spirit.

A lot of the poses in the yoga classes involve bending and stretching the spinal cord. By this we massage and rejuvenate the vertebrae, increase the circulation which in turn influences the nervous system. Inverted poses such as the shoulder stand offers many benefits, for example the changed gravitational pull on the body stimulates circulation where it has stagnated. Also you will experience the calming and energising properties of yogic breathing.

The English yoga classes are on Tuesday mornings from 9.15 to 10.30am and have just started with success. There are still a couple of empty mats awaiting your arrival on the heated floor of the Spiegelhuis, Mooieweg 94, Arnhem, The Netherlands.

The classes are given by me - Simone Holstege - a passionate Hatha Yoga teacher and also a certified counsellor. I have more than 10 years of yoga teaching experience at the moment giving 7 classes a week in Arnhem and Huissen.  To visit my site surf to www.adhara-yoga.nl

So what is Adhara-yoga ? What does Adhara mean?

Adhara is my business name and is the Sanskrit word for support or base. Adhara here means a basis for self-examination or personal development through practising a type of yoga called Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is more than releasing the tension in your body or freeing the conditioned mind. Hatha yoga also awakens the energy or “prana”. This awakened energy - a relaxed body and an open mind - helps to realize your true nature.  Also the first chakra or energy wheel in your body is called the “muladhara chakra” or root chakra base. This reflects on the innate connection of our bodies with the element earth.

At the end of the yoga class after the relaxation or yoga nidra when I put the lights back on and look around at everyone, I can see how the yoga has worked out. People have a relaxed attitude and a radiant openness. Lights on! Why and how does this happen?

The explanation for this change is that the yoga poses and flows we practice really vitalize the physical body. They remove the muscle tension and blockages letting the energy or life force to flow freely. You will certainly feel an energetic change.
Also consciousness is expanding: the released energy connects you with your inner self and at the same time with your surroundings. You do not get distracted easily. It is not just the eyes that are shining, the other senses also become more sensitive.

So Hatha yoga is actually more than just one class every week, it's an attitude. You could practice yoga every day in your own way. I write “could” because I know most of us are busy even me! There are just days with more worries or stress than expected. It is difficult then to find a space alone for yourself and practice yoga. There are many things in life that distract you. Finding time to relax and at the same time dealing with your daily life in itself is yoga! So yoga is not a must but a fine time, a treat - for you.

AdharaYogalogokleinJoin us....yoga is like a wine…..you only know if it’s good when you have tasted it for yourself!
