We start from Arnhem, the beautiful and attractive city on the banks of the Rhine river and the capital of Gelderland province. The city is famous for its different attractions: the Openluchtmuseum, the Burgers Zoo, the Museum for Modern art and the Kroller-Muller Museum. But most of all Arnhem in summer is famous for the incredible activities taking place in the attractive Sonsbeek Park such as the "vlotconcerten" every Sunday at 12 in front of the Brasseie Boerderij situated in the Park or the "Park Open", a live music event with performances by different bands at the Ronde Weide. Another important event in Arnhem is the World Statues Festival taking place on 28and 29 August.
Nijmegen: situated on the banks of the Waal river, a university town of Roman origins full of vitality. In 2005 the city celebrated its 2000 years of history; it is in fact the oldest city in the Netherlands.
Amsterdam, the capital city with its impressive architecture heritage, lovely canals, worldwide famous museums and galleries, is also the centre of different festival in summer :the Kwakoe Festival taking place every Saturday and Sunday in July and August.
Alkmaar, the city in the north of Amsterdam. One of the top attractions of the Netherlands. The city preserves the 17th-century pattern of canals and narrow streets, and has many historic buildings. It is very famous for its cheesmarket as well.
There are also beautiful little towns not far from Arnhem, and worth visiting even with children:
Berg en Dal: an elegant hilly town with a beautiful forest surrounding it, close to Nijmegen.
Blokzyijl: small typical harbour town to visit on the way to other attractions in the Overijssel province.
Bronkhorst: the Netherlands’ smallest village, with 160 inhabitants and a town charter dating from 1482.
Giethoorn: the “Venice” of Holland. Children will love the ride on the boats. The village is located in Overijssel Province.
Harderwijk: coastal town to roam around with the family on a sunny day. It houses the Dolphinarium.
Hoog Elten: nice on a Sunday morning for coffee. Overlooking the Rhine Valley.
Kinderdijk: between Rotterdam and Dordrecht on the river Noord. A world heritage site to be seen.Xanten, Germany: an old Roman little town close to Kleve with many attractions including a very well organized Roman Museum.
Ootmarsum: one of the prettiest villages in The Netherlands located in Overijssel province.
Orvelte: a tiny 19th century traditional village. Interesting to visit and wander about.
Wageningen: the city of science and of the Food Valley, famous worldwide for its University. Visit the Saturday market but also take a walk in the town centre and enjoy the little restaurants and cafes. In summer a visit to the Blauwe Kamer (a reserve with beautiful walks on the river among birds and antelopes) is recommended.
Zutphen : this Hanseatic town is one of Holland’s first historical towns.

Doesburg: city is situated on the right bank of river IJssel, it has an historical inner city with several museums and many monuments such as the Main court, the Doesburgse mustard factory which is worh a visit. There is a cultural route every first Sunday of the month with galleries, ateliers musea and other historic monuments open to the public.
Volendam: an old, world famous fishing village on the Ijsseleer attracting a huge number of tourists. Local men and women wear traditional costume.
Zaanse Schans: the tourist heart of the Zaan region, this town is a living museum with windmills, timber houses and the first Albert Heijn shop dating from 1887.
